Vintage Size & Measurement Guide
Vintage labels are a starting point. Cuts and sizing vary between brands and decades, so the measurements of the individual piece matter more than the letter on its label.
Start with something that fits
Lay a similar garment you already wear flat, without stretching it. Measure it in centimetres and compare those numbers with the listing. Leave room for the fit you prefer and for any layers you plan to wear underneath.
Compare like with like
- Chest width: measure straight across the garment from underarm to underarm. A flat width is not the same as the full circumference.
- Length: compare the stated measurement points. If the listing does not explain them, ask us before ordering.
- Sleeve: check whether the measurement starts at the shoulder seam or neck. Raglan and dropped shoulders can make comparisons less straightforward.
- Waist and rise: for trousers, compare the flat waistband and rise as well as the leg length when these measurements are supplied.
